Have you been Hijacked by Martfinder.com Search Engine?

If your on this site your Internet Explorer has probably been Hijacked by Martfinder. You have probably tried everything you can think of to get rid of this default search which appears each time you enter a wrong internet address. Its annoying I know! I've spend few good hours trying to figure out where it hid itself on my computer. I checked my start-up files, registry entries, even reinstalled IE6. Finally I figured out the problem and I wanted to share it with every one.

I'll make it real simple:

1. Click on to <START>

2. Click on <Run>

3. Type 'regedit' then press <Enter> key

4. At this point your "Windows Registry" will appear. Do not temper with "Windows Registry" unless you know what your doing!

5. Click on <Edit> scroll to <Find>

6. Type 'martfinder' then press <Enter> key

7. Your computer is now searching for martfinder entries in your "Windows Registry", it make take few moments, since the registry file is incredibly large. Once it finds an entry it will look something like this

8. At this point Right-Click on the highlighted item and select <Modify>. Then change the 'Value data' field from http://www.martfinder.com to a search engine of your choice (example: http://www.google.com). After you have done so click on "Ok"

9. Now repeat steps #5-9, until all of the "Windows Registry" entries pointing to http://www.martfinder.com have been removed. (Tip: You can keep pressing F3 for an automatic 'Find-Next' Feature).

10. After all of the entries have been removed, close the "Windows Registry" .

**The below steps are crucial in getting rid of martfinder culprit.

11. The next step will require you to download a program called HijackThis v1.61.0. This program was designed to remove internet websites which appear on our computer unwanted, annoy us, and keep us hijacked with their advertisements.

13. Look trough all of the entries specified, and look for the one that looks something like this:

" O1 - Hosts: 66.250.171.136 auto.search.msn.com "

14. Once you have found this entry, "check-mark-it" and click on <Fix Checked> on the bottom of your screen. The program will delete the culprit entry.
